........just be warned, I'm a little irritated because I already wrote a huge journal entry and supposedly pressing the "return" key at a certain point of the journal causes the webpage to reset...so if this is short; you understand.
I used to submit art on Deviantart on, what seemed like, a daily basis. But, I've been busy with college. These art classes have been teaching me something and that something is…I'm learning little to nothing productive to comic book art. I've learned more about art from Youtube videos than in class.
So for this reason, I changed how I approach drawing:
In these classes my professors say that the best way of becoming a better artist is to sit at a desk and draw for hours. No, I say. I knew right from hearing it they were wrong. Sitting at a desk for hours and drawing the same thing over and over again and expecting your brain to click is insane. You may keep drawing and think that what you're drawing is better but once you step back and actually see it, you'll realize it doesn't look like the object you're drawing. As Einstein once said, "Insanity is doing the same thing, over and over again, but expecting different results."
So taking this info I decided to stop wasting all my time on homework and instead went outside to study everything I could.
I saw how people walk, talk, and looked. I went to the gym again so I could see how muscles work and well…to check out the ladies ;D
After a few weeks of studying, I began drawing in a new sketchbook and guess what happened… my art improved! Now that I'm home for winter break (or what I call the longest 6-7 weeks of my life) I started drawing again. Of course I'm not proud of everything that I draw, but one I really liked is one called Bruce Wayne ([link]. Most recently (meaning yesterday) I drew a piece called Cyclops and Wolverine ([link].
If you want you can look though my other galleries and see what I mean… now go out and see the world, because only the insane stay at a desk!
Until next,
Josh "JStray" Strayer
